Consulting Examples:
Open Sky Aikikai - Nonviolent Martial arts school in Hillsborough, NC
website designed, then turned over
Open Sky Aikikai is my martial arts home, full of a great teacher, caring advanced students, and solid martial arts training in Aikido and Chen style Tai Chi. Their website is frequently their first face to prospective students. Now maintained by someone else, I worked to design and implement this site a few years ago.
Apple Realty - Real estate and property management in Durham, NC
website designed. staff trained. Advanced protections. Ongoing support.
Apple Realty is a very friendly and caring property management firm in Durham, NC, run by Chris McKeel, his helpful family and his staff. After implementation of the basic template, I helped train staff on how to upload additions. Emails are hidden from spiders using javascript and server techniques. The rental list is interactive, allowing for easy print out or selection of certain properties...using client side scripting.
srdi - creating sustainable and just communities in the rural south in raleigh, nc
modified crystal reports. served as tech advisor & liason. website modifications.
Southern Rural Development Institute does great work. Cal, a former boss of mine and friend, contacted me about updating an existing rural philanthropy report designed in Crystal Reports that, at the time consisted of over a dozen separate reports and maps, taking over a day to completely produce. By investigating advanced Crystal capabilities, I connected all reports as subreports to a single point of entry, speeding up the process by hours. This is still a work in progress - next we're trying to speed up the ArcView map work.
The Triangle, NC tech company SAS had recently gotten interested in the work that SRDI does and how they might help support their work. In that vein, SRDI found themselves interested in some support in knowing what questions to ask, and what forward thinking capabilities to request help with. I helped evaluate SAS tools and collect staff ideas to put SRDI's best foot forward in that effectively honoring that relationship.
Duke Iraq and US - student and faculty initiative to promote dialogue
created website. coordinated events. collected diverse event info. 2003.
The second US-Iraq war began while I was at Duke as an undergrad. A number of students and faculty were concerned there wasn't enough oppportunity for dialogue in and out of class... so we got together around an initiative to increase dialogue at a combination of panel speaker events, multi-faith peace walks, and class discussions. As a student I coordinated the information sharing website... created quickly and simply to house information for the initiative. While this was almost 4 years ago now, the Duke Iraq and Us site is still, for some reason, online!
Duke Tae Kwon Do club - large
club president. 1st Tae kwon do club website. web and flyer advertising brough us from 3-5 to 30-50 members. 2003.
Since I had a strong background in martial arts coming into Duke as an undergrad, I was asked to help teach the infant Tae Kwon Do club (at a few regularly attending members) as a Freshman. By junior year, after being handed the reins, a new website and advertising brough membership up to an all-time high, increasing paying membership and attending students 10-fold. Again, somehow the Duke Tae Kwon Do site is still online (though obviously no longer maintained).
Personal Website - Flash Demo
extra fancy flash demo to test flash for multimedia engineering projects.
Like Macromedia Flash? Then maybe you'll enjoy this insanely happy webpage I posted mid-Duke. Sound, ridiculous animations, and more... Good flash practice, but almost nauseatingly smiley as a homepage (though I didn't put text in and fully HTMLize it). :-) You might also like to see the cheesy daisy, "hello flowers" version if you're in need of a smile. If you've got something flashy in mind, I promise to make it simpler, more incorporated into the HTML (with, of course, alternative pics for those that don't like flash!), and much, much less over-the-top. :-)
There are other examples stuck on the wider web of me designing stuff. Google me and go hunting, if you'd like! Amazingly, I have odds and ends online that date back to my high school days. If you do google me, though, I'm not the recently dead bishop of the same name.
